Private lessons are simply the best way to learn an instrument.  The student gets one-on-one time
with the instructor, allowing for immediate attention to problems the student is having or for more
challenge when the student is ready to move ahead.  All of our instructors have years of experience
in teaching music lessons, not just in playing and performing on their instruments.  They will guide
your student in learning to enjoy music, not just now, but for a lifetime.

Most beginning students will take a 30 minute lesson once a week.  In that lesson, they will cover
basics of the instrument they are studying, technique specific to that instrument, and general
musicianship and theory that will translate to all further music study.  (See below for more specific
information about each type of lesson.)

More advanced students may choose to take a 45 minute or hour lesson as they are working on
longer repertoire and need more time for more in depth studies with their instructor.

All private lesson fees are charged monthly and are based on an average cost for the year.
2009-2010 fees are :
30 minute lessons:  $80/month
45 minute lessons:  $120/month
hour lessons:            $160/month

If a student begins lessons in the middle of the month, fees will be prorated for that month.

A minimum of two months of lessons is required for all private lessons.  A free trial lesson may be
set up with any teacher before actually registering for lessons.

Private lessons run year round; students may sign-up to start lessons at any time during the year.
Please call us at 740-681-2792 or 614-834-1936 for current schedules.

All private lessons use a traditional approach to learning music with emphasis on note-reading
and technique.

Daily practice is required for student success.  Teachers will discuss specific expectations with
individual students, but a general guideline is 10-15 minutes per day for beginners, 20-30 minutes
per day for intermediate, and 45-60 minutes per day for advanced students.

Piano lessons focus on note-reading and proper hand positions.  We use a variety of acclaimed
piano methods in lessons; if a student has already started lessons with another teacher, the
method books they already have will be used.  A gradual, multi-key approach is used, allowing the
student to experience complete keyboard knowledge.  The student will learn basic rhythm
patterns, intervals, chords, harmonization, scales, essential signs and terms, sightreading, and
transposition.  Flashcards are used for further reinforcement of learning.

Guitar lessons teach proper pick technique, chords and chord progressions, as well as different
strumming patterns.  You will learn to read music and play melodies using styles of music YOU
choose.

Woodwind, brass, string, and percussion lessons supplement the instruction you receive in
band or orchestra and provide extra help in any problem areas.  Or you can choose to learn an
instrument that you've always wanted to play.  Technique, intonation, rhythm, and advanced music
are also taught.

Voice lessons focus on correct breathing, vocal techniques, stage presence, pronunciation, and
intonation.  A combination of styles are taught, including classical, popular, and Broadway.

All private lesson students are given the opportunity to perform on our two annual recitals, as well
as at other community events.  Piano students may participate in annual National Guild Auditions
for adjudication.
